Cruiser Time

Hello. I have been riding motorcycles for about 8 years now and have owned three, all sportbikes. I want to upgrade into a cruiser, but haven’t found a right fit for the budget. In terms of riding, I have had several experiences where I have rented a few Harleys, my two favorites were the soft tail and road king. Although I found both to be great bikes, now that I want to purchase one, the price seems a bit much. I have noticed that Yamaha and Honda make similar styled cruisers to match the Harley Davidson and are significantly lesser in price, but are they worth purchasing (in the long run)?  I am curious to know what your opinion is on the matter. Thanks.

Buying used motorcycle without clear title

Hi Ray,

I’m trying to purchase a used motorcycle from a private seller, but the seller still has a lien on the bike. As I understand it, there are two legitimate options for getting the title “free and clear” and signed over to me. My question is this: which method below would you recommend, both legally and practically?

Option 1: Find out the balance of the lien from the lienholder, and pay the lending institution directly. Subtract that amount from the total sale price and give the remainder to the seller. The lender then sends me the title to the bike.

Option 2: Go with the seller to one of her lender’s branches and complete all transactions on the spot. I pay the seller the full amount, she pays the bank, and we get the title signed and notarized right there. This would be a hassle for both of us, since we’d have to take time off work and go during normal banking hours.

Thanks!

By the way, I’m in Tucson, Arizona.

I cannot find the Maximin lean angle for my 2006 HD 1200C
I changed the front tire to a 19″ and removed the forward controls to install mid controls. I want to  avoid washing out and scratching my terrific bike and old body. I  love riding the county roads in WI even though I live in Chicago- thank yo in advance–Paul

Cowardly motorcycle passenger…

So, now that my husband has had his bike for THREE years, now, I’ve finally bought myself a helmet so I can ride with him.  Today, we went for our first ride.  I had to get off after just a couple of blocks.  Now that I’ve read some of the answers here, I get it.  I was SICK, I had no way to communicate with him, our first “planned” trip was WAY too long, and I did NOT feel safe.  Now I’ve perused this site, I know I ought to go to a BRC, get a bit more gear, and take it slow.
But really feeling safe – any tips for riding on the back of a ‘90 Kawasaki Ninja 600/650?  I’ve seen riders that have both hands behind them on the TINY bar, I’ve seen riders holding the drivers, but I just can’t imagine being comfortable….
I’ve already made an investment in the helmet, and I know part of this is just plain fear I will grow out of, and he was a REAL sport — he made no rude comments when we met back up, and said he was already done being mad about it.  This is something he absolutely LOVES and I want to be a part of it, maybe even get my own bike someday (my Aunt got her first bike at age 40, and rode every year until she just physically couldn’t handle it by herself any more) and go on tours with him.
Thanks for your time.

Safety chains on bike

Is it a law in MN to have safety chains on your motorcycle if you are pulling a small trailer?  We had a hitch put on our bike for pulling our small trailer, and they didn”t put safety chains on the hitch. Our last bike hitch had them and we thought it was a law.  Thank you
